What these figures mean.

GST settlement funding covers the gap between paying GST at settlement and receiving it back through your next BAS — a timing problem rather than a permanent cost, but one that still needs cash today. Enter the purchase price for context, the GST amount you need to fund, how many days you expect until the BAS refund lands, and an interest rate to test.

Funding cost is simple interest on the GST amount for the days it is outstanding; effective cost expresses that as a percentage of the GST amount funded, which is usually a small figure given the short timeframe most of these facilities run for. The actual number of days depends on your BAS lodgment cycle and the ATO's processing time, both worth confirming before relying on this figure. This kind of short-term funding is typically arranged through private lenders and non-bank lenders on our panel, business-purpose and investment-purpose settlements only, and priced against the transaction and the borrower's position rather than a standard product rate. The purchase price field is for context only — GST settlement funding is priced against the GST amount itself, not the full transaction value, so a larger purchase does not necessarily mean a larger facility. Confirm the exact GST liability and expected refund timing with your conveyancer or accountant before settlement, since both figures are set by the transaction and the ATO rather than by us.

Questions

GST settlement funding — questions we are asked.

How is the number of days to refund usually estimated?

It depends on your BAS lodgment cycle (monthly or quarterly) and ATO processing time — your accountant can usually give a realistic estimate for your situation.

Can this be used for a residential purchase?

Only where the purchase is for business or investment purposes, not a home you will live in — GST settlement funding for owner-occupied purchases falls outside what we arrange.

Is the funding cost the same as an establishment fee?

No — this figure is interest only, calculated on the GST amount for the days outstanding. Many facilities also carry a separate establishment fee, which is not included here.

What if the BAS refund is delayed beyond what I estimated?

The funding cost would increase in proportion to the extra days — worth building in a buffer rather than the minimum expected timeframe.
